How to Use Oil of Oregano

Internal Use

There are several ways to use Oil of Oregano, but no matter how you use it or why you are using it, you should always use caution. This is a highly potent essential oil and even though our Wild Oil of Oregano formula is diluted in a 1:1 mixture with M.C.T. oil (medium chain triglycerides), if it appears to be too strong for you, you can dilute it with more M.C.T., or if that is not available, you can use Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) as a diluting agent/carrier oil - however, we suggest that you only mix up small batches as the EVOO could go rancid over time. M.C.T. oil does not go rancid.

Always start slow and use caution as everyone's sensitivity to oregano oil is somewhat different. Start with only 1 or 2 drops at a time -- you can work your way up from there over a period of a few days -- to no more than a maximum of 15-20 drops in any given day. This maximum dosage should be taken only when you are fighting a particular infection or affliction, or initiating a cleanse as described below - and you can space them out over the day, for example, 4-5 drops 4x a day.

For just a maintenance/preventative daily dosage, you shouldn't need any more than a maximum of 4 or 5 drops a day, but again, always start slow with only 1 or 2 drops at a time to see how your own body is going to tolerate it.

Used internally, the drops work well when mixed in juice or water. You may also mix the oil with a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to improve the taste. A lot of people like to mix 3 or 4 drops or more in orange juice and just drink it right down! Instant energy and well-being!

For a cleansing of parasites and pathogens, you should take the maximum dose of 15-20 drops a day for a period of two weeks and then stop for two weeks. Then repeat the process. This procedure offers a cleanse of your body from parasites, fungi, molds, bacteria, and viruses that may be lurking. After that you can just take as needed.

If you feel yourself coming down with a 'bug' such as a sore throat, etc., Oil of Oregano is very effective if you just drip the oil directly from the dropper down your throat and follow with a glass of water or juice. It is a little uncomfortable to take it this way, but guaranteed the 'bugs' don't like it either! All kidding aside, Oil of Oregano will kill most germs on contact.

It is also extremely effective on UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections), bladder infections especially, just mix 4 or 5 drops into your water bottle and sip throughout the day, again, starting slow the first day and working your way up to the 15 to 20 drops a day for a period of two weeks to be sure you have killed all of the infection.

Topical Use

Apply Wild Oil of Oregano directly to affected region once or twice daily; use more often if necessary. If rash/irritation occurs, discontinue use.

On Skin: Rub a few drops vigorously into the affected area. Repeat as necessary.

In Shampoos: Add a few drops of Wild 0il of Oregano to your shampoo. After shampooing allow the lather to sit for a few minutes, then rinse.

In Soap: Add a few drops to all pump soaps and use during showering and hand washing for excellent antisepsis.

On Gums and Teeth: Use a drop on your toothbrush instead of toothpaste to brush your teeth. Rub on gums and teeth for various indications. Apply once or twice daily.

For Warts or Boils: Saturate affected area(s). Cover with a bandage. Repeat dressing until lesions are clear.

Toe Fungus and Athlete's Foot: Put a drop on top of the toe nail and spread over the affected area. The oil will penetrate through the nail to kill the fungus underneath. Rub the oil between the toes to relieve athlete's foot problems. You will notice a change in a few days.

Other Methods of Use

The vapors from Wild Oil of Oregano can be inhaled to clear the air of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. A small cloth with a few drops of the oil can be sniffed occasionally while riding on public transportation or when in crowds.

You can also employ the "tent and steam" method by boiling a pot of water, dripping app. 4-5 drops of our Wild Oil of Oregano on the surface of the water, drape a towel over your head and inhale the steam and vapors - again, go slowly so as not to create too much of a burn on your sinuses. The oil and the oil vapors will actually 'ride' the steam directly into your nasal cavities - you will feel a burn but it will not harm you - and your sinuses will be instantly relieved!

Also for sinus infections, some people like to put a few drops of our Wild Oil of Oregano formula onto the head of a Q-tip and gently swab the inside of their nostrils, creating a flow of mucous that will also typically give rise to multiple sneezes. This is a pretty extreme treatment and is not in any way a comfortable one, but when the treatment is done, you will instantly feel the relief of pressure and the antibacterial properties of the Oregano Oil will be fast at work in totally wiping out the bacteria and/or viruses that caused your infection in the first place!

Another topical method, as recommended by Lisa Oz (Dr. Oz's wife), is when her children were feeling ill, she would rub the oil on the bottoms of their feet before they went to bed, and even a little bit rubbed into their chests (diluted way down of course for very small children's sensitive skin to just a drop or two in a little salve or olive oil would be all they would need), and they always seemed to feel better in the morning!

Vaginal membranes and other genital regions: Exert caution here, as significant heat and burning sensation will result. Oregano oil is a peppery spice. For application to sensitive genital regions be sure to dilute a few drops of the oil in a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil or coconut fat. Apply as needed.

Diaper Rash: Do not use straight oil on small children and especially infants; always dilute by placing only 1 or 2 drops of the oil in a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil or coconut fat. If stronger dosages are needed, use only a drop at a time.
There seems to really be no limit to the ways and means that people are finding to use Oil of Oregano in their daily lives to combat all sorts of health problems, and there are no known side effects and Oil of Oregano is compatible with any other natural remedy or prescription drug.

Oil of Oregano - Nature's Versatile Healer!

History of Oil of Oregano -- Since ancient times oregano has been used for its healing and medicinal qualities. The first recorded use was by the Sumerians in 3,000 B.C., who described many medicinal applications. There is a picture of an oregano plant on the walls of the palace of Minos of ancient Crete dated about 2,000 B.C.

For centuries the Greeks made heavy use of the herb to relieve joint pain, aching muscles, chronic cough, infections and venomous bites. The Romans also used the herb for medicinal uses. Oregano has been cultivated in the Mediterranean region since biblical times. In fact, a variety of oregano was the hyssop mentioned in the Bible, which is commonly held to be Origanum.* the cleansing and purifying characteristics of hyssop in the Bible are clearly revealed (Lev. 14; Num. 19:6; Psa. 51:7).

Traditional Chinese physicians have used oregano for centuries to treat fever, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, and itching skin conditions. Europeans have used oregano like marjoram, as an aromatic spice, and as a digestive aid, arthritis treatment, an expectorant for cough, colds, flu, and chest congestion, and as a menstruation promoter.

The ancients also used oregano as a seasoning, and it still is used as such. But until recent times the Western world, particularly America, has not availed itself of its immense medicinal benefits. The ancients used oregano as a medicine because their experience proved that its regular use helped ward off infection and disease. The forms in which it was administered included the essential oil, hot infusions made with the leaves/roots, and the crushed fresh herb as a poultice.

"In a landmark decision on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that
the health claim rules imposed by the FDA were unconstitutional and in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act. The Court instructed the FDA to allow the use of disclaimers on labels rather than to suppress these claims outright.
The Court further held that prohibiting nutrient-disease relationship claims is invalid under the first Amendment to the Constitution."
